Food Pairing

Food Pairing

Since I don’t have access to the mighty (and commercial) database VCF, I keep doing Google searches on food pairings. And I stumbled upon this wonderful site:

It is an Ali-Baba cave for cooks. Marvelous, just marvelous.

Their site says:

This website wants to inspire on new food combinations (What fits well with…) and to support you on how to replace food products by a combination of other products (What can replace…) in case you forget to buy a product, wants to replace a product with low carbon footprint products, have an allergy...

Go visit.

This is what takes up my time. I'm fighting crime bosses in San Juan, Puerto Rico, making a Bollywood movie in India, getting my casino built in Vegas. I have 949 soldiers in my mafia. The two listed here are 2 of my 6 top mafia. Oh,,you can't tell, but I'm holding a 9 mm, that's why my hand looks the way it does. Black on black,,not a great idea. :-)

I will be getting back in Flickrville soon. Looking forward to getting back into the groove with all you wonderful peeps. Have missed you all!!! xo

Hope you all have a wonderful Labor Day weekend. Stay safe and have fun.

December 2010 Armed Forces Bowl Players Visit Cook Children's Hospital, FT Worth, TX

Members of the West Point Black Knights and Southern Methodist Mustang football teams and several cheerleaders, visited Cook Children's Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas on Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 28th, before the Armed Forces Bowl Dec. 30th. Team Members visited with patients, distributed gifts and took a bevy of photos with the children and parents in attendance. "Coming here to the bowl game, we've found that the best part of the experience so far - aside from the game of course - has been being able to reach out to others," said Black Knights sophomore RT Benjamin Jebb. "Being able to spend a couple hours with some kids that might be going through a rough time is great. It is a really humbling experience."

BKT-New Ideas for Tasty Meals-3

This recipe booklet, "New Ideas for Tasty Meals with Recipes for 2 or 4" by Mary Lee Taylor, is a wonderful piece of ephemera. It is illustrated and contains fabulous vintage recipes--just like Grandma made!

The softcover booklet was published by Sego Milk Products Co. This booklet is 15 pages long. It measures 6" (15.2 cm) wide and 8.25" (21 cm) tall. It is in great vintage condition.

This nostalgic booklet would make a fabulous collectible or could be put to great use in your scrapbook, collage, altered art, card or mixed media projects.

okay, yeah, this probably looks a little spooky (freaky looking mom, big sharp knife, subdued frightened looking son)...
but really, it's all good! Max loves helping make dinner and his favorite part is cutting stuff up.

Microwave Cooking Health

microwave cooking health

    microwave cooking
  • A microwave oven, or simply a microwave, is a kitchen appliance that cooks or heats food by dielectric heating. This is accomplished by using microwave radiation to heat water and other polarized molecules within the food.

  • A heating method uses radiation generated by a special oven to penetrate the food. It agitates water molecules, creating friction and heat; this energy then spreads throughout the food by conduction (and convection in liquids).

  • the general condition of body and mind; "his delicate health"; "in poor health"

  • a healthy state of wellbeing free from disease; "physicians should be held responsible for the health of their patients"

  • A person's mental or physical condition

  • Soundness, esp. financial or moral

  • The state of being free from illness or injury

  • (healthy) having or indicating good health in body or mind; free from infirmity or disease; "a rosy healthy baby"; "staying fit and healthy"

from Oxygen magazine, revised by Meike

Pumpkin Pie Oatmeal

1 cup water
? cup canned pumpkin (not the pie filling but the real pumpkin)
? cup oats
1 tbsp cinnamon
1 tsp pumpkin pie spice
Splenda to taste

1. In a small pot, bring water to boil.
2. Stir in pumpkin &remove from heat; turn heat to low.
3. Stir in oats & put back on burner; gradually increasing heat to med/lo – reduce heat if it begins to bubble or splatter.
4. Cook for 7 mins til oats are cooked & fluffy.
5. Stir in spices and splenda.

Now, here are the alterations that Meike made that I followed.
I added one scoop of GNC’s Vanilla Soy 95 powder (Oatmeal is the only place I use the soy protein as it gives it a better flavor and texture than the whey protein), added almost ? cup more water (because of adding the protein), mixed it all in a microwave safe bowl, and put it in the microwave for 3:45, and then let it sit for about 5 minutes. It was quick and easy.

Oh, I also loved how my apt smells like the holidays. It's soooo nommy!!!

There is not much to say except avoid the naked body scanners that they are putting into airport terminals. These devices use terahertz waves that DAMAGE DNA. Terahertz waves are above microwaves so not only are you being "cooked" but the image taken from the "back-scatter" (x-ray) is of your naked body in great detail. Then the image is stored forever. Yes they will tell you that the image is deleted. They Lie! Don't give up your liberty for security!!
