This is my mostly completed solar oven. Mostly completed because I am still planning to add a tri-fold reflector to increase the power.

The box was provided by an interested party. It is a reusable cardboard storage pallet box with interlocking base and lid. Reference the top view picture to see the interlocking mechanism. The cardboard portion is approx. one inch thick, 3X2.5X2. The interior box is approx. one inch thick, 25X35X2. The space between the 2 boxes is filled with confetti-shredded paper from a Data-Destroyer. The space between the insulating paper and the lid is filled with crumpled newspaper. The area under the interior box is also lined with shredded paper. The hollow lid is filled with shredded paper and stuffed and lined with aluminum foil to reflect heat. The plastic base has wheels screwed on with sheet metal screws. All resources except for the glass lid, aluminum foil, and 550-cord handle are re-appropriated trash.

The estimated interior temperature is 170 degrees so far. This is without the black cooking surface or black cooking pot. The interior of the black pot sitting on the black cooking surface is expected to be double that of the air inside the oven. This is due to the absorption of the infrared and visible light and heat waves.

My theory is that the box does not smolder of catch fire because the heat is radiant and not direct. I am fairly certain that the aluminum foil plays a large roll in this, since most of the heat energy is in the form of light, which is reflected by the shiny foil surface.

I am still in need of some PermaTex Ultra-Black High Temp Gasket Sealant to seal the areas around the base, lid, and glass. I am losing a lot of heat through the gaps between these areas. I am also in need of some black paint for the outside of the box, to aid in the absorption of incident light, and also for some flare.

This is the internal portion of the solar oven. The interiors of both boxes are lined with aluminum foil. The space between the 2 boxes is filled with confetti-shredded paper from a Data-Destroyer. The space between the insulating paper and the lid is filled with crumpled newspaper. The hinge arms and the eyelets for the handle are attached to the glass lid using epoxy. The internal temperature without the black cooking pot or surface reaches approx. 170 degrees according to the thermometer you see on the floor of the oven. With the black cooking surface and pot the temperature will be much higher. And even higher with the introduction of the reflector, once it is built.
