Available in four detachable units, “Wirio” mobile cooking cables cook and warm food and beverages wherever you are. Similar to a tape measure, you simply pull out the cable from a small, bracelet-shaped unit and arrange it to fit the size and shape of the object being warmed like a pot or cup of coffee. The unit displays the temperature level, which is controlled by sliding your finger over the display area. The polymer-based, eco-friendly cables are protected by thermal insulation so that they don’t affect the surface beneath them when they are hot. Creative types can have fun arranging the cables into shapes like flowers and hearts! The cables are automatically cleaned and sanitized when they’re zipped back into the unit.

How do the K100D and K200D compare for dark noise in a long series of exposures?

For astrophotography the K100D sucks. Dark noise increases dramatically from frame to frame as the CCD heats up, and compensation by thermal modeling is difficult and onerous.

The K200D heats up substantially less, but how much will it improve matters?

Here I cold-soaked both cameras to 0 degrees C over four hours, then turned off the chiller, and took a long (145) series of 30s exposures in the dark, with noise correction off. This photo, at the end of the series, shows the final temperature was 28 degrees in the box.

Once I analyse the 4GB of data, I should have a better idea how they compare. Stay tuned.
